Does your heart swell with pride when you look at your pupper? Are there more snaps of your dog than of your family or friends on your phone? Does a quick stop at the pet store lead to an armful of toys and treats? Sound familiar?
We adore the puppers in our lives and we are so lucky to have them. Okay, so we might sound a little obsessed to non-pet owners, but our puppers are the centre of our worlds. We do everything in our power to ensure they’re the happiest and healthiest they can be. And we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Pupper love
A house automatically becomes a home when you have a pupper and there’s nothing like being greeted by a little furry face after a hard day. They’re usually everyone’s favourite family member, and we speak to them as if they understand our every word with a tilt of the head and we lavish affection on them. Simply, they are so much more than family to us.
Birthdays are often marked with pupper parties and special gifts. Even our social calendar is organised around them so that they never miss a walk or are lonely at home. And if we can coordinate events or holidays where they can come too, even better!
As a result, the bond they have with us is a strong connection too. They know when we are excited and when we feel unhappy and they love us just as much as we love them.
When we curl up on the sofa for a Friday night movie sesh, or share a moment of belly rubs and cuddles, they are just as content as we are. In fact, when we share affection, the happy hormones beta-endorphin, oxytocin and dopamine are released in both pupper and parent. No wonder it’s such a special bond!
Pawprints on our hearts
Some of your proudest moments and hardest laughs are no doubt because of your pupper’s antics. And of course, as with any relationship, there are moments that may have been scary or sad too. We only feel the depth of these emotions because these beautiful pups have filled our hearts to the brim. So, when it’s time to say goodbye, it can be just as painful as losing a family member of the human kind.
Puppers leave lasting pawprints on our hearts. They are never ‘just a dog’ and those who think they are, haven’t understood the way that they change our lives for the better, forever.
Perhaps one of the reasons why we are inclined to spoil them so much is because we are painfully aware of how relatively short their lives are compared to ours. We have them their whole lives, but they’re with us for just a fraction of ours. So, every moment counts and should be cherished, treasured and appreciated.
So much more than a dog
For pupper parents, their pup is not just a pet. They provide joy and true unconditional love; they become our best bud, our trusted confidante, our adventure friend and our loyal companion. They embody our hopes and dreams, and we become so much more than just a ‘normal person’ because we matter to our puppers, we are their world.
Here at Lyka, pupper parents are our people. They’re the ones who think nothing of going above and beyond for their pupper. And when you have that kind of bond with your pupper, is it ever possible to care too much? We say, not a chance.
