We do dog food differently
Tested on humans (that's us!) we set the bar high, with all of our ingredients made for human consumption – we even share suppliers with some of the country's top restaurants!
We care about where our ingredients come from and take your pup's eco-pawprint very seriously, so we always source locally where possible, with 85-95% of each recipe made from Australian ingredients. We're also proud to use only wild-caught, grass-fed and free-roam animals.
We work with leading holistic vets, as well as a veterinary nutritionist, combining the best of natural medicine and scientific research to help optimise your pup's health for a longer, happier life.
We say no to high-temperature processing, lightly cooking all of our recipes below 90°C to help preserve the nutrients your pup needs to thrive and allow their body to absorb as much of the goodness as possible.

Raw
No processing
Raw meat typically contains pet-grade ingredients and isn't always complete and balanced. So, whilst this type of food can be convenient and work for many puppers, there is potential for contamination, and can be difficult for pups with weak digestion. Raw food is also not appropriate to be used in a household with immunocompromised tenants.
Fresh food, lightly cooked
We lightly cook our food at a low temperature so that vital nutrients and moisture are retained and the risk of exposure to potentially bad bacteria and other pathogens is minimised. Each human-grade recipe contains purposeful ingredients that benefit your pupper from the inside out.
Air or Freeze Dried
Moisture Removed
Not heavily processed, air and freeze dried food are both served wet down and are generally a reasonable choice. There is however, still active debate about whether reconstituting with water is as beneficial as feeding a whole food diet that has not been dehydrated during the manufacturing process.
Canned
Highly processed
Canned food often contains additives and BPA, which make it shelf-stable for years - very convenient if you like to bulk buy or have fussy puppers. To ensure this longevity and control the growth of harmful bacteria, the cans are heat-sterilised between 121°C and 250°C. Unfortunately, this heat intensive process destroys many of the natural vitamins and minerals.
Kibble
Ultra processed
With its eye-catching packaging and overall convenience, kibble looks good on the shelf, but if we're honest, this is where it should stay. Why? It is sprayed with palatants to try and entice your pupper, and is cooked at such high temperatures that destroys natural vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that then have to be added back in. It's probable that science is yet to discover some of the beneficial nutrients that are lost during this process that cannot be added back in with options that are currently available.
Every recipe formulation is heavily researched by our team.
Lyka's recipes are formulated by our co-founder Dr Matthew Muir alongside a Veterinary Nutritionist, and designed to optimise dog health.
Based on scientific research, longstanding evidence and advice from top nutritionists, our recipes are formulated to contain a mix of high protein, moderate fat and low GI carbohydrates.
We also follow AAFCO and FEDIAF guidelines to ensure each of our recipes are suitable for all life stages.

Our recipes are made in small batches by our dedicated team in our Sydney kitchen. Each recipe is made with love using whole food ingredients that pack a taste bud tingling nutritional punch.
