Where do you source the ingredients from?
All of our meat and vegetables are sourced from local, Australian farmers. For our other ingredients such as seeds and oils, we also source locally where possible. We’re proud to support local businesses and know exactly where our raw ingredients come from.
Why do you use ethically sourced meat?
All of our meats and organs are either grass-fed (beef) or free-range (chicken). By using these meats we ensure that these animals are treated ethically. Grass-fed and free-range meats also provide superior nutrition for your dog as they have less fat and more nutrients compared to standard meats.
How do you calculate how much my dog should eat?
Our scientific, veterinary-derived algorithm calculates how much your dog should be eating based on your dog’s information that you provide in the sign-up survey. Based on factors such as your dog’s current weight, age, activity and body shape, our algorithm calculates the daily calories your dog requires to maintain their ideal weight. You can manage your subscription through your Lyka account, so if your dog's profile changes or you simply think they are getting too much or not enough food, we'll adapt their serving sizes until we find the right fit.
Where do you produce the food?
Our food is prepared in a human-grade kitchen, right in Sydney. Unlike typical pet food companies that may outsource their manufacturing to 3rd party producers or overseas, we control every part of our production process.
What do you mean by complete and balanced food?
Complete and balanced means that all the nutrients that your dog needs are provided in the food, including macronutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrate) and micronutrients (minerals and vitamins). Lyka follows the AAFCO nutritional standards. Our bowls are formulated to be complete and balanced for all life stages, including puppies, adults and seniors. Because we prepare our food fresh with wholefood ingredients, we don’t need to add any artificial “Vitamins & Minerals” that you may see on other pet food labels.
What if my dog is a senior?
Our bowls are highly nutritious and meet the needs of all dogs no matter what life stage. This means for seniors too. For an older dog, it’s important more than ever to maintain their body weight, to help prevent diseases such as arthritis. Our customised serving sizes will assist you to feed your dog the correct amount of food to ensure they can continue maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
What if my dog is a puppy?
Our bowls are designed to provide the right set of nutrients to a developing pup. As puppies are constantly growing, they require appropriate amounts of food to ensure healthy development of their muscles, bones and organs. Your puppy’s customised serving sizes, will change as it grows, to make sure your puppy is always eating the right amount. We do this through a combination of our predictive growth algorithm, plus the updates you give us of their weight. But don't worry, your plan price won't change from the time you sign up, even into adulthood.
Is this raw food?
No. The meat and legumes in our food are lightly cooked, and the remaining vegetables, seeds and other ingredients are raw. Raw meat poses food safety risks, such as potential contamination through pathogens and bacteria. Also, some raw food companies may not produce balanced food, which may lead to deficiencies in crucial vitamins or minerals in your dog. Finally, some dogs can be particularly sensitive to a raw diet and are not be able to consume raw meat.” Lyka bowls are the best of the three worlds: balanced food made with clean ingredients, without the risk of bacteria and pathogens, and gentle on sensitive tummies.
Getting Started
What are some of the changes I can expect to see with my dog?
We have seen many positive changes in dogs switching to Lyka. Firstly, increased enthusiasm during meals times, translating to increased energy throughout the day. Other noticeable changes include shinier and healthier coat and less stinky poos. You may also notice your dog has smaller poops. This is perfectly natural and is because our food doesn’t have fillers. Your dog is digesting and using a larger portion of the food then before.
How do I transition my dog onto Lyka?
Your first package will have step-by-step instructions on transitioning your dog to Lyka. The process generally takes about a week and involves mixing your previous food with Lyka, gradually increasing the amount of Lyka. Your dog will be adjusted to Lyka in no time!
Do I need to consult my vet before switching to Lyka?
Since Lyka was developed alongside vets and is complete and balanced, you do not need to consult your vet before transitioning to Lyka. However, if your dog has had food allergies or dietary problems in the past, it's always a good idea to talk to your vet before switching their diet.
How long does the food stay fresh for?
We don’t add any preservatives to Lyka, thus our food doesn’t last anywhere as long as typical wet or dry dog food and we’re proud of that. We vacuum seal the packets to prolong the freshness of the food and frozen, Lyka will keep for 3 months. In the fridge, it will last for 2 days. We recommend storing your Lyka packets in the freezer and moving them to the fridge the day before opening them.
How much room should I make for the Lyka packets?
Since Lyka is fresh food, you need to store it in the freezer. Depending on the free space in your freezer, you will want to choose either standard shipping or frequent shipping. Every 1000 calories is about the size of a standard ice cube tray. So if your dog eats 500 calories per day, and you’re getting a 3-week delivery, you need space for about 10 ice cube trays.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Yes! We source all of our packaging with environmental sustainability in mind. Unlike other brands that use Styrofoam boxes which are extremely detrimental to the environment, our cardboard boxes are 100% recyclable and our insulation is 100% biodegradable. If you rinse the food packets, you can also recycle those in soft plastic recycling bins, for example, REDcycle. We’ll give you exact recycling instructions with your package once it arrives.
What if I need to change the amount of food I give to my dog?
You can access and change your dog’s information by simply logging into your Lyka account on our website. Different lifestyle changes, such as getting more or less exercise, and or getting de-sexed can affect how much your dog needs to eat. Even if your dog hasn’t had any major changes but you think they are getting too much or not enough food, let us know through your Lyka account, and we will update their customised serving size on their next delivery.
What if my dog doesn’t like the food?
In our experience, even the pickiest of eaters go crazy for our fresh food. However if your dog isn’t fully satisfied, not a problem- we will fully refund you! We’ll ask you to donate the remaining food to your local shelter. 
The Subscription
Where do you deliver?
We cover about 70% of Australia’s population. You can check whether we ship to you in our sign-up survey. Delivery is always free. If we don’t yet ship to you, we can send you an email once we expand to your area.
When do you deliver?
Your shipment will arrive every few weeks, depending on the size of your dog. When you complete our sign-up survey, you can choose your delivery frequency. You'll always be able to see your next scheduled delivery through your Lyka account. Once each order is shipped you will receive a link to track your package.
Do I have to be home when it’s delivered?
Not at all. Since the shipping box is insulated, the Lyka food will stay at the right temperature until about midnight of the night it arrives. Just be sure to pop the food into the freezer as soon as you get home. Some customers choose to ship to their work address rather than their home. You can also provide us with delivery instructions when you sign-up.
What if I am away on holidays?
If you need to change your scheduled delivery date, we can arrange that for you. Simply message us on Facebook messenger (Lyka Pet Food) or email our support team (info@lykapetfood.com.au). That being said, Lyka can be easily taken on holidays with you. Simply pack a few ice-packs into a cooler and pop the packets straight into a freezer once you arrive. Finally, if you need to, you can also pause the deliveries by logging into your Lyka account, and resume them once you’re back.
What if I have multiple dogs?
If you have 2 or more dogs subscribed with Lyka, we will combine their food into a single delivery. During your sign-up survey,  you will be able to see your combined shipping frequency upon checkout.
What are the plan options?
There are three steps to tailor your dog’s plan. 1) Choose whether your dog will be having our beef or chicken bowls, or a combination of the two. 2) Choose whether you want us to take care of all of their meals, or just half of them. The 50% option is a great option if you can’t commit to the full subscription. 3) Choose whether you want standard or frequent shipping. If you don’t have much freezer space, we recommend the frequent option.
How much does it cost?
Prices vary depending on the calorie needs of your dog and start at roughly $5 a day for a Maltese, $7 a day for a French Bulldog, and $10 a day for a Border Collie. You can see the price of your dog’s customised plan by completing the sign-up survey. You can also choose your shipping frequency, and either a 100% or 50% meal plan. Our prices are higher compared to typical dry or wet food and are reflected in the higher quality and fresher ingredients. Delivery is always free.
When will I be charged?
Your subscription will be charged 5 days before each shipment. The exact dates of your upcoming charge and shipment can be viewed when you log in to your Lyka account. We accept Visa and MasterCard debit and credits card, which are processed automatically for each delivery.
Is there a minimum subscription time required?
Not at all. You can pause or cancel your subscription at any time directly from your Lyka account. You can also switch between different plan options. We only ask that you make any changes before your next payment, otherwise, the upcoming order will be processed.
